EngX was originally supported through a pair of small pilot grants from the USC WiSE Program and the USC Ming Hsieh Institute. Based on the success of the original event, a larger 3 year non-renewable grant was awarded from the Office of Naval Research STEM Program (2017-2019). One of the key features of this event is that it is free to the public. To make this event possible, we rely heavily on the combination of the almost 100 volunteers and the financial support to fund the day-of supplies.
In addition, we are actively expanding the scope of EngX. For example, this year, we are working with the USC Viterbi Admissions Office and the Center for Engineering Diversity to run a pair of programs in parallel with EngX that are geared towards parents and that discuss topics including applying to college and careers in STEM. We would like to continue to develop activities along these lines.
To make this event continue beyond 2019, we are actively fundraising, and all support is helpful. If you indicate EngX, 100% of your gift will be focused on supporting the materials, supplies, and infrastructure needed to make this event possible in the future.
